Are dental x-rays safe?

At Midtown Modern Dentistry, dental x-rays are a key diagnostic tool because they help us detect developing problems before they can compromise your oral health.

Advances in dental technology include the use of digital radiography, where exposure is reduced by as much as 90% compared to traditional film dental x-rays. Digital x-rays are not just safer to use, though. They are also preferable to traditional x-rays because they give us a much more precise picture of what’s going on inside your teeth.

When considering the amount of exposure from x-rays, it’s good to remember that we’re exposed to some level of radiation all the time. The sun constantly exposes us to radiation. But the consensus among dental professionals is that the small additional exposure that occurs with dental x-rays is dramatically offset by its diagnostic benefits. However, your safety is still of the utmost importance to us, and we provide all patients with a lead-lined apron for an extra layer of protection.

We want you to be comfortable with every aspect of your treatment at our Altamonte Springs dental office. If you still have any concerns about the safety of dental x-rays, please don’t hesitate to contact us. A knowledgeable member of our professional team will be happy to answer all your questions.
